Joe and Helen Rippinger1940 - Joe and Helen Rippinger of Aurora celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 2, 2006. Their family includes their six children John '64, Fr. Joel, +Tom '68, Dan '72, Tim '74 and Mary Jo and twelve grandchildren.

Pete Perez1943 - +Pete Perez was honored by the City of Aurora on October 12 when a portion of High Street was renamed "Pete Perez Street" in memory of the longtime Aurora police lieutenant and Kane County undersheriff. Pete, who died in 1999, served as a role model for many young Latinos, including his six children. One of his sons is a captain with the Aurora Fire Department and two others are in local law enforcement. At the ceremony Mayor Tom Weisner '67 said, "I think it is appropriate to honor a leader who paved the way for today's generation of Hispanic leaders. We must not forget the accomplishments of those who worked in the past to create the opportunities of today."

Jerry and Marilyn Hagaman1947 -Jerry and Marilyn Hagaman of Burnsville MN (pictured right as Snafu and Gingersnap) have been entertaining "kids" from six to sixty for over twenty years, both as a ministry and with secular programs. They perform at churches, Sunday school programs, rally days, vacation Bible schools, conventions, camps and many other church or church related programs. Their secular programs include schools, malls, fairs, picnics and even an occasional wedding reception. They have presented programs all over Minnesota and in many other parts of the U.S. Their most recent event was a two-week program in Ukraine, reaching several hundred young people and adults in three villages. This year was especially thrilling as they were able to be a part of the dedication of the new Church that was under construction for the past three years. They taught three Bible Camps for children and older youth and performed at two community festivals which the churches sponsor. It is a joy to see the smiles and laughter on faces that see little to smile about. They sculpture balloons until their fingers ache. Jerry and Marilyn were recently featured in the Minneapolis Star Tribune article entitled "Church Sends In The Clowns." The couple have two married children who can't believe what their parents do and six grandsons who are delighted...Thomas Walker of Aurora is retired from the Northrop-Grumman Corp.

1948 - Michael Kaminski of Broadview IL retired from LEICA INC. (formerly Wild Heergrugg Instruments, Inc.) in 1992. He retired as Village Clerk of Broadview and now works part-time as Deputy Clerk, Newsletter Editor, Zoning Coordinator. His military service retirement is a combination of Active (7 years) and Reserve (14 years), retiring as Chief Warrant Officer III.

Dan Howell and Joe Ammer, Jr.1949 - Joe Ammer, Jr. of Aurora (pictured right with Alumni Director Dan Howell) claimed the 1949 Marmion class ring that was found at the Indiana Dunes and returned to Marmion last year. Joe never thought he would see his Marmion Military Academy ring again when he lost it at the Indiana Dunes at age 19. After seeing the ring in the Feb 05 Alumni News, Joe contacted the Alumni Office and said “I think you have my ring, can I come and see it?” He came to Marmion and with a tear in his eye and huge smile on his face he claimed the ring he thought lost forever.
1950 - Mario and Patricia Patrizi of Ft. Myers FL celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 20, 2005. They renewed their vows at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and their children threw them a great party with over 100 guests. Mario and Patricia continued their celebration with a tour of Europe.
1951 - +Genevieve Fichtel of Aurora, mother of Donald of Colorodo Spring CO, died on October 29, 2005. She is survived by her five sons, two daughters, 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
1952 - Don Herzog called to report that his grandson Tom Herzog has chosen Michigan State Spartans and will attend the Michigan State Honors College. Tom is currently a senior at Powers Catholic HS in Flint MI and is a 7 foot tall All-American prep basketball player...Jim and Janice Meisch+Chris Kennedy, son of Patrick of Flora IN, died on October 1, 2005. Patrick thanks everyone for their prayers and says he misses his son dearly...Jim and Janice Meisch of Lake Summerset IL (pictured right) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2005. The couple have three sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. Jim is retired from Central States and as Alderman for City of Aurora. Janice is retired from Old Second National Bank. The couple celebrated with a trip to America's Parks of the West.
Bernie and Pat Deutsch1953 - Bernie and Pat Deutsch of St. Charles (pictured right) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 16, 2006. They renewed their vows at a Mass celebrated by their son Rev. Dan Deutsch. Bernie is the owner of Ray's Evergreen Tavern in St. Charles...+Flora Franck, mother of Nick, Jr. of Aurora, died on August 13, 2005. She is survived by Nick, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas, Sr.
1954 - Frank Wittry of Naperville wrote us that the Class of '54 meets every third Thursday of the month at 11:30 am for lunch at the Thai Lotus restaurant at 375 S. Rt. 59 in Aurora. Some past attendees have been Joe Hernandez, Tom Hagerty, Dick Buss, Gene Pribyl, Stu Johnson, Mike Hogan, Bob Wallers, Jim Leweck and Tom Schiltz. So come when you can and join your classmates for the best two hour lunch in town...Frank Dasek of River Hills WI retired after 40 years as a High School English teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools.
1955 - Dr. Nick Gordon of Batavia, a retired dentist, received the degree of Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University of Chicago. Nick works as a volunteer in Holy Cross Catholic Parish in service to older adults, shut-ins, and in the St. Vincent de Paul Society to persons in need...James Young of Oklahoma City OK is a special agent - facility security program manager for the Federal Aviation Administration.

1966 - +Shirley M. Feltes, wife of the late +Lyle '38 and mother of Terrence '66 of Scottsdale AZ, Patrick '67 of Cave Creek AZ and Stephen '70 of Anoka MN, died on December 7, 2005. She is survived by her three sons, three daughters and nine grandchildren...Mike GyovaiMike Gyovai of Licking MO (pictured right) stopped by in December to talk with Marmion's basketball teams and watch a Friday night game. Mike is in Marmion's Athletic Hall of Fame and played basketball for famed college basketball coach Bobby Knight at West Point. Mike was mentioned in Knight's book as his all-time favorite player. Mike owns his own Home inspections and Construction Management business. He and wife Jean have three sons...Joseph Kearney of Grand Rapids MI recently had his book Cry Havoc The Sirens! published. The book features interviews with state troopers, deputies and local police discussing rage, bad weather driving and much more. Joe has been teaching statistics and math related courses since 1977. He is a ten-time marathon runner and is also a certified flight instructor...Jeff and Cindy Reuland continue to run Reuland's Catering with their three children (Ryan '93). The business, which began in 1955, has grown to include the management of food stands at three Fox Valley Park District facilities: Splash Country, Blackberry Farm Village and Phillips Park Aquatic Center. But for Jeff, one of the most rewarding aspects of the business is the fact that for genreation after generation, families return to Reuland's for their important functions such as weddings, picnics and funerals.

1969 - +H. Jean Duy, mother of Tod of Sandwich IL, died in August 2005 after a nine-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Ralph, three sons, one daughter, and many grandchildren (Adam '98 and Ryan '00)... Tom Grady of South Bend IN and Craig Rice of Rockville MD found out how small a world it really is when their daughters met in a German class at the University of Michigan. It turns out that Maggie Grady and Jessica Rice are the same age, both are mezzo-soprano voice students, and are taking the same section of German! Although Craig and Tom have not seen each other in about 20 years, they hope to catch up at Parents' Weekend in Ann Arbor...+Grace Marsh, mother of Patrick of Tenino WA, died on October 31, 2005. She is survived by her six sons, four daughters and many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John and son Daniel.
1970 - Dr. Ed Garrity of LaGrange, a renowned lung transplant doctor, was featured in the Chicago Sun-Times after deciding to move from Loyola Hospital to the University of Chicago Hospital. Many of his staff are following him to U. of C., where he says there is a great reputation for research and education and an opportunity to take the lung transplant program to another level. He plans to do at least 20 lung transplants a year. Dr. Ed is a Marmion trustee.
Wiseman - Hughes Donation Check1971 - Seeing the White Sox win the World Series is icing on the cake for Marmion this year. The South Siders’ season total of 200 home runs gifted the Academy with a $20,000 donation courtesy of Wiseman-Hughes Builders as part of the annual “Home Run Call.” This year’s donation will be used in similar fashion as 2004 with the funds going to the Student Financial Assistance Program, helping needy and deserving young men attend Marmion. In 2004, ten students received Financial Aid grants of $2,420 each from the Wiseman-Hughes donation. “We’re grateful to Jim and his company for their contributions to Marmion,” said Fr. Charles Reichenbacher OSB '59. “Of course, we are also grateful for the success of the Chicago White Sox who indirectly contributed with every home run.” Jim Hughes Jr. '71 presented the big check to Headmaster John Milroy '79 and added, “What started as a way to give a little back has actually grown into something pleasantly unexpected. Coming back here brings back fond memories and a renewed sense of what it means to graduate from such a highly regarded prep school. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to be a part of an academy that influences young men at such an important time of their lives.”...Patrick and Stephanie Zak reside in Geneva. Patrick is the Assistant Administrator of the Electrical Workers Local 701 Pension Fund.

Larry has two older daughters, Emily, 23, graduated from Boston University and works for Owens Corning. Karina, 20, is a junior at Vassar College. Larry is a Vice President of Transportation for The Corradino Group.
Micahel and Donna Phillips1973 - Michael and Donna (Donato) Phillips of Belvidere were married on August 6, 2005. The couple is pictured right with Best Man Joseph Olsen and groomsman Nobert Rivera. Also attending from the class of '73 were John and Candace Troy of Escondido CA, Joseph and Julie Warda of Aurora, and John and Mickey Ciba of Long Lake IL. Michael's law office is in Crown Point IN where he practices law throughout northern Indiana and Illinois.
1974 - Dr. David Dybalski of LaGrange is currently working as a psychologist for School District U-46 Elgin HS. David has worked as a psychologist for 25 years, 17 working with severly emotionally disturbed adolescence and 5 years at Elgin State Hospital. He and Doborah have two sons Daniel and David.
1975 - +Mary Louise "Maryl" Falen-Olsen, mother of James Falen of Naperville and Gregory '81 of Overland Park KS, died on June 3, 2005. In the late 70s, she donated the baby grand piano for the Marmion stage, which is still being used today. She is survived by her two sons, two daughters and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband James Falen and her second husband Robert Olsen... Dr. Jon Hupp of Annapolis MD is a vascular surgeon with Cardiology Associates, P.C...Paul Johnson of St. Charles is an Account Executive with St. Paul Travelers Insurance in Naperville.
1976 - Tom Collins of Tempe AZ (pictured right) was hired as the new director of intercollegiate athletics at Ball State University in Muncie IN. Tom has served for the past 20 years in several capacities in the athletics department at Arizona State University, including the last five in the department's number two position, senior associate athletic director. At Arizona State, he has overseen seven nationally ranked Division I-A programs, helped direct a collegiate licensing program that generated annual revenues in excess of $450,000, and created the department's Addy Award-winning "Playing with Fire" marketing slogan. One of Collins' first tasks at Ball State will be to oversee the completion of their football stadium renovation. The project, which is scheduled to begin in 2006, will include the installation of synthetic grass and construction of a larger press box and entertainment center, private boxes, enhanced ticket offices, concessions facilities and more...COL Scott Cusimano of O'Fallon IL is a reserve officer and was recalled to active duty. He is the reserve advisor to the director of logistics, Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base...Paul and Lauren Fischer of Barrington celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2006. The couple has three children. Kevin (20) recently graduated from high school and was a National Merit Finalist. He now attends Dartmouth College. Brittany (18) and Zachary (15) attend Barrington High School. Paul is the Chief Financial Officer for AMSTED Industries in Chicago.

Dick and Shirley are Abbot Marmion Society Life Members. He is survived by his wife Shirley, Albin and many grandchildren...Michael Mattera of Lake Zurich is the President of Embytech Inc.
1979 - +Brenda Grabacki, wife of Gregory of Elmhurst, died in April 2005. She is survived by Gregory, one son and one daughter...Bill Graft of South Barrington, a senior law partner at Graft & Jordan, was recently elected chairman of the Advocate Charitable Foundation Board of Directors. Bill has served on the board since 2001. He is also chairman of the Development Council of Advocate Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington. In that role, he helped provide leadership to raise more than $10 million to build the Kocourek Family Cardiac Care Center.
1980 - John Fenzel III of Washington DC has been promoted to full COL in the U.S. Army Special Forces. He is presently a Military Advisor to the Secretary of Defense...Jim Powers of Chicago, owner of the Minty Fresh Recording Studio, reports that a recording of his record label has been nominated for a Grammy Award.
1981 - Rodrigo and Jeannine (Imbrenda) d'Escoto of Chicago were married on June 23, 2005...Mark and Dawn Friedman of Urbana celebrated the birth of their daughter Abigail on October 12, 2005. 1983 - Michael DeGregorio of Mokena recently made a big career move and became a partner in Peton Enterprises, Inc., a managed futures fund. Michael and Pamela have two sons Anthony (8) and Nicholas (5)...Bill and Mary (Wells) O'Connell reside in Park Ridge. Bill is a self-employed financial consultant... Dr. Scott Gee and Ralph RigaudRalph Rigaud of Chicago received an award from National Kaiser Permanente for Regional Innovation for the series of electronic Well Child SmartForms he created. He received the award along with Dr. Scott Gee (both pictured right), who created the original paper format of the Well Child SmartForms. Ralph accepted the award at the First KP HealthConnect Users conference where he also demonstrated how the new electronic format cuts the time of an office visit, captures an incredible amount of data and lends to the efficiency of the medical office in general. Ralph is the Clinical Content Technical Lead for Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region in the implementation of their electronic medical records (Epic/KP Health Connect).
1984 - Jim Eccher of Sugar Grove is Chairman Elect of the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce. Jim is president of the Old Second National Bank of Aurora...Mike and Anne Johston reside in Lake Geneva WI. Mike is the owner of MJ's Lake Geneva Marine Company...James May of Terre Haute IN is the new Executive Director for Mosaic. This faith based organization provides housing and supports to the developmentally disabled and other individuals with disabilities.
1985 - Dr. Kevin and Michelle Bryan of Nileville FL celebrated the birth of their daughter Taylor Alexis on September 21, 2005...Mike and Lisa Fenzel of Vicensa, Italy celebrated the birth of their first child, Marcus Alexander on October 1, 2005. Mike has been promoted to LT COL in the U.S. Army. He is presently Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1st Bgde., 82nd Abn. in Khast, Afgahanistan. He will assume command of the 1st Bgde., 503 Abn. in Vicensa, Italy in June 2006...+Antje Jelinek, mother of Mark of Minneapolis MN, died on August 18, 2005. 1986 -+Dennis Dougherty, father of Eugene of Los Alamos NM, died on December 13, 2005. 1989 - Paul Grane of Downers Grove is Vice President of Grane Transportation Line, LTD in Chicago. Paul and Kary have three children, Lisa (5), Jason (3) and Aden (1).
1990 - Jason Dempsay of Shabbona is the Golf Course Superintendant of Tanna Farms Golf Course in Geneva. Jason and Wendy have two daughters Sarah and Elizabeth...Paul and Gina Leuer of Chicago celebrated the birth of their first child Jacob Thomas on December 10, 2005. Paul said that Jacob is already in training for the Marmion football team of 2019. Paul recently shot his newest film with Printers Row Pictures LLC production company in the Northwest suburbs and during three Flyers games at Alexian Field. The film called "Eden Court" is adapted from an off-broadway play and centers around minor-league baseball. The film's cast includes Tom Lennon(Comedy Central's "Reno 911"), Kimberly Williams (ABC's "According to Jim"), Stephnie Weir ("Mad TV") and Christian Finnegan (Comedy Central's "Chapelle Show"). Paul hopes that the film will be out next fall.
1991 - Josh and Susan (Wehrle) Day reside in Batavia with their daughter Emma...Nicholas DiGiovanni of West Chicago is the Vice President of SPD Incorporated in Schaumburg. Nicholas and Rose have one son and two daughters...Paul Gordon of Austin TX received a Master of Fine Arts degree in film production from the University of Texas at Austin. His feature film, "Motorcycle", played at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City UT in January and will also be shown at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin TX this March...Jim and Brooke (Johnston) Guddendorf of Oswego were married on October 15, 2005...Andrew and Maja Konitzer recently moved to Sherman TX. Andrew is a professor of political science at Austin College...Jeff and Amber O'Brien reside in Lehi UT. Jeff is a home builder and hang gliding photographer.

Robert is a real estate agent with Labra Group Realtors in Aurora...Matt Gibson spent last year general contracting his own home (with wife Tina) in Hampshire IL which he describes as one of his most taxing experiences to date. In July 2005 he took a position as Territory Manager for Certain Teed, a major building materials manufacturer. The change came about so that he could work on completeing his Bachelor's degree and enroll in an MBA program...Brian and Sara Hankes reside in Montgomery with their daughter Caitlyn Bridget (2). Nathaniel received the John W. Sterling Award, a service officer's sword, as the most outstanding senior U.S. Air Force cadet who has consistently demonstrated superior leadership ability, excellence in academic and military studies and involvment in extracurricular activities. Erik received the Gen. George C. Marshall Award, which included a trip to attend the National Security Conference, a certificate and a four-volume biography of Gen. Marshall. The award was presented to the most outstanding senior U.S. Army ROTC cadet whose leadership and scholastic qualities epitomize the career of Gen. Marshall. The two graduated on May 14, 2005. 2002 - Andrew Tefft of North Aurora made the National Dean's List as a junior as Loras College. Andrew is an economics and Spanish major...Bryan Timm of Aurora will be participating in a program called "Bike and Build" after his graduation from Illinois Wesleyan this Spring. It is an organization, based in New York, that enables young adults to travel by bike across the country to raise funds for and awareness of affordable housing efforts. The group helps build homes with local housing groups as they stop in various communities along the way. Bryan has been selected to be a team leader for the group biking from Providence RI to San Francisco CA. He (and all participants) have been asked to raise $4,000 in donations for this program. Anyone interested in making a donation can contact Bryan at btimm@iwu.edu...Sean Wolf of Bloomington graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis WA. 2004 - Dennis Cladis of Geneva (pictured right) spent his freshman year playing backup goalkeeper for the soccer team and catcher on the baseball team at Grinnell College Pioneers. Dennis was featured in the Kane County Chronicle for his college sports accomplishments. In the article he recalled one of his favorite sports moment, winning the Suburban Catholic conference baseball championship his senior year at Marmion. He also said that he is considering transfering to a school with a religious affiliation to prepare for work with a teen ministry...Brian Greviskes of Aurora was one of twelve students selected to serve on advisory board for the Academic Resource Center at MIT. Brian is a second year student at MIT, pursuing a degree in both mechanical engineering and history. Also, in his role as student orientation coordinator, he presented "The Book of the Class of 2009" to MIT president Susan Hockfield. The book contained the signatures of the entire class of 2009. Brian said that it was the first time in the history of MIT that such an effort had been undertaken and he anticipated that it signaled the start of a new tradition at MIT.
